1. Nature and Scope of the Retreat
Dirt Temple retreats are experiential, educational and wellness-based programs. While the retreat may be psychologist-led, participation does not constitute psychological treatment, psychotherapy, diagnosis, or the formation of a therapist–client relationship.
Deidre Steadman and Rob Griffin are not providing personal therapeutic advice, nor are they acting as your personal therapist, psychologist, counsellor, or healthcare provider at any time, including before, during, or after the retreat, and including any informal conversations or communications that occur outside scheduled retreat sessions.
Any psychological or therapeutic frameworks shared are provided for general educational and personal development purposes only.
2. No Ongoing Therapeutic Relationship
Attendance at the retreat does not establish:
- An ongoing therapeutic relationship
- A duty of care beyond the reasonable scope of retreat facilitation
- A substitute for individual therapy, psychiatric care, or medical treatment
Participants are encouraged to maintain their own independent mental health and medical support networks before and after attending the retreat.
3. Self-Assessment and Suitability
By registering for and attending the retreat, you confirm that:
- You are responsible for self-assessing your physical, psychological and emotional suitability to participate
- You understand that retreat environments may include emotional exploration, group processes, somatic practices, reflection, altered routines, and exposure to potentially activating material
You acknowledge that participation may bring up emotional responses and that you are responsible for monitoring and managing your own wellbeing, including removing yourself from activities if required.
4. Mandatory Disclosure of Mental Health and Trauma History
Participants are required to disclose, to the best of their knowledge, any relevant mental health conditions, trauma history, diagnoses, triggers, medications, or psychological vulnerabilities that may reasonably affect:
- Their safety or wellbeing
- The safety or wellbeing of other participants
- The safety or wellbeing of facilitators
This includes (but is not limited to):
- PTSD or complex trauma
- Dissociative conditions
- Anxiety or depressive disorders
- Eating disorders
- Substance dependency or recovery
- Any condition requiring ongoing psychiatric or psychological care
Failure to disclose relevant information may result in removal from the retreat without refund.
5. Excluded Mental Health Conditions
The retreat is not suitable for individuals who are currently experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, severe or acute mental health episodes, including but not limited to:
- Active psychosis
- Acute manic or hypomanic episodes
- Severe dissociation
- Active substance addiction or withdrawal
- Recent psychiatric hospitalisation
- Suicidal ideation requiring immediate clinical support
By attending, you confirm that you are not currently in the midst of any such episode and that participation does not replace clinical intervention.
6. Medical and Health Disclosure
All participants are responsible for fully disclosing any and all medical conditions that may impact the health, safety, or wellbeing of themselves or others, including:
- Physical injuries or limitations
- Chronic illness
- Allergies
- Medications
- Mobility or accessibility needs
Participants acknowledge that failure to disclose relevant medical information may increase risk and may result in exclusion from activities or the retreat as a whole.
7. Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol may be served during the retreat in a limited, intentional and ritualistic context, rather than for recreational or excessive consumption. Participation with any alcohol related elements of the retreat is entirely optional and will be replaced with a non-alcoholic substitute.
Participants who are pregnant, attempting to conceive, in recovery from alcohol dependence, managing substance-related concerns, taking medications that are contraindicated with alcohol, or who otherwise choose not to consume alcohol may opt out of alcohol-related elements.
Participants acknowledge that alcohol forms part of the retreat framework and agree that it is their responsibility to assess whether this environment is appropriate for them and to fully disclose any relevant health, pregnancy, medication, or substance-related considerations prior to attendance.
8. Privacy and Health Information
By providing medical, psychological or personal health information, participants consent to Dirt Temple collecting, storing and using this information solely for the purposes of assessing suitability, managing participant safety, and facilitating the retreat.
All sensitive information will be handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws. Information will not be shared with third parties except where required by law, where there is a serious threat to health or safety, or where emergency intervention is reasonably necessary.
Participants acknowledge that failure to provide accurate information may increase risk and may result in exclusion from the retreat.
9. No Medical or Psychological Screening
Dirt Temple does not conduct medical, psychiatric, or psychological assessments of participants. Acceptance of a booking does not constitute confirmation of suitability. Responsibility for determining personal medical and psychological fitness to attend rests solely with the participant.
10. Participant Conduct and Self-Responsibility
Participants agree to:
- Act in a manner that does not place themselves or others at risk
- Respect personal boundaries within group settings
- Take responsibility for their own emotional regulation
- Seek external professional support if distress arises beyond the scope of the retreat
Facilitators reserve the right to limit or cease a participant’s involvement if they assess that continued participation poses a risk to the participant or others.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted under South Australian law, Dirt Temple, its facilitators, hosts, and associated parties are not liable for psychological, emotional, or mental health outcomes arising from participation in the retreat, except where liability cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantees or rights that cannot be excluded under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
12. Acknowledgement, Consent and Acceptance by Payment
By paying a deposit or any portion of the retreat fees, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You have read, understood and accepted all Terms and Conditions contained herein
- Payment of a deposit constitutes informed consent and acceptance of these Terms and Conditions
- You are entering into this agreement voluntarily and at your own risk
Payment of a deposit is taken as confirmation that you meet the suitability requirements for participation and have disclosed all relevant medical and mental health information.
You acknowledge that participation remains conditional upon ongoing compliance with these Terms and Conditions.
13. Emergency and Crisis Disclaimer
Dirt Temple retreats are not crisis intervention services. Facilitators, hosts, and associated parties are not authorised to act as emergency mental health responders.
If a participant experiences acute psychological distress, suicidal ideation, or a mental health crisis during the retreat, responsibility for accessing emergency or clinical support rests with the participant. This may include contacting emergency services (000), a treating practitioner, or leaving the retreat early to obtain appropriate care. In the event that emergency intervention is required, all associated costs, including emergency services, medical treatment, transport, accommodation changes, or external professional support, are the sole responsibility of the participant, and Dirt Temple bears no financial liability for these costs.
14. Right to Refuse or Remove Participation
Dirt Temple reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to:
- Refuse participation prior to commencement, or
- Limit, suspend, or terminate a participant’s involvement during the retreat where continued participation is assessed to pose a risk to the participant, other attendees, facilitators, or the safe functioning of the retreat, or where a participant breaches these Terms and Conditions.
Where a participant is removed or asked to leave under this clause, all payments made, including deposits and any remaining balance, are non-refundable, and participants are not entitled to request or receive a refund.
Participants remain responsible for any additional costs incurred as a result of early departure.
Force Majeure
Dirt Temple is not liable for cancellation, alteration or interruption of the retreat due to events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, public health orders, venue unavailability, facilitator illness, or other unforeseen circumstances.
15. Confidentiality and Group Setting Limitations
While Dirt Temple encourages respectful and confidential conduct within group settings, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in a group environment.
Participants acknowledge that:
- Other participants are not bound by professional confidentiality obligations
- Personal information shared voluntarily within group sessions may be heard or disclosed by others
Participants are encouraged to share only what they feel comfortable disclosing and to take responsibility for their own privacy.
16. Informed Consent and Assumption of Risk
By attending the retreat, participants provide informed consent to engage in activities that may involve emotional, psychological, physical, or environmental risk.
You acknowledge that:
- Participation is voluntary
- Individual responses to retreat experiences vary
- You assume all inherent risks associated with attendance, to the extent permitted by law
17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Any disputes arising in connection with the retreat shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Australia.
18. Participant Agreement
I confirm that I have read, understood and agree to abide by all terms and conditions outlined herein. I acknowledge that participation in the Dirt Temple retreat is voluntary and that I accept full responsibility for my physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing during and after the retreat.
